Intention to increase Fees

The Government has today revealed plans to increase several important fees, which may affect individuals applying for immigration and nationality services. The changes include the following fee increases:

  • Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) fee: The cost of applying for an ETA will rise to £16. This fee applies to travelers who require authorization to enter the UK electronically.

  • Certificate of Sponsorship fee: This fee, which is required for employers sponsoring workers, will increase to £525. This change is expected to impact businesses.

  • Naturalisation as a British citizen fee: The application fee for those seeking to become British citizens will rise to £1,605. This increase is part of the broader changes affecting citizenship and immigration-related services.

  • Naturalisation as a British Overseas Territories citizen fee: The fee for individuals seeking naturalisation as a British Overseas Territories citizen will increase to £1,070.

  • Other nationality services: Additionally, there will be increases to a range of other nationality services fees, affecting applications related to citizenship, residency, and immigration documentation.

These changes are part of the Government’s ongoing adjustments to immigration and nationality service fees. We encourage all members to review how these increases may affect their plans and budget accordingly. Further details on these changes and how they may impact individual applications will be made available in the coming weeks.

The changes to ETAs, certificates of sponsorship, and nationality services are expected to generate an additional £269 million annually.

As part of the government's "Plan for Change," ETAs will help create a more efficient, digital immigration system that is faster and more secure for the millions of individuals crossing the UK border each year.

The introduction of ETAs aligns with the border security strategies implemented by other countries, such as the USA and Australia.
